UPDATE 2: The departure from Caracas to Casablanca has been delayed until tomorrow morning (8am PST, 12/15). No flight plan beyond Casablanca has been filed.
Supposedly, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak has been announced to be in Caracas for oil-related meetings this week. That announcement was made after the plane landed. Perhaps he was the reason for the flight, but that seems a little like sending Pete Buttigieg around in Air Force One. But who knows?
Anyone know how long it’s been since Putin has been seen?
I have no idea what this means, but the Ilyushin Il-96-300 registered as RA-96023—which is supposedly Russia’s Air Force One—is currently being tracked on its way to Caracas, Venezuela.
You can track it yourself here. You can find the flight plan here.
We don’t know who’s aboard. Could be Lavrov. Maybe Putin is just sending cash ahead in case he has to flee. But after canceling his year-end speech, who knows what he’s up to?
Just thought you guys might like to know.
UPDATE: Looks like the plane landed in Caracas yesterday and is getting ready to head back before long. Does anyone know how long it’s been since Putin was last seen?
