The trucker convoy and protests that happened in Canada have served as a warning for what is currently making its way across the US. Sources are saying that truckers and several alt right protest groups will be descending on the Washington, D.C. Beltway area on March 5th, 2022. This could not only have devastating effects on the greater D.C. area, but are a fearful reminder of the attempted insurrection on January 6th. The protests in Ottawa shutdown supply chain routes, shuttered auto manufacturing plants and outraged local citizens. Hundreds of arrests were made, dozens of weapons were confiscated and millions of dollars in bank accounts were frozen. They have shown time and again that they aren’t afraid to resort to violence. It’s no secret that the truckers convoy has been buttressed by right wing U.S. media outlets and fringe conservative representatives in Congress, the same people who are praising Putin for his violent invasion of the sovereign, democratic nation of the Ukraine. For as loud as these right wing groups are, they represent a minority of the U.S. population.
In direct response to the fringe protest groups looking to cause congestion and chaos in the Beltway area, Continue To Serve and several partner organizations are organizing the peaceful “You Don’t Speak for Me” rally against white nationalism and authoritarianism on March 5th, 2022 from 2:00-4:00pm at Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC. We are outraged by the continued spread of COVID misinformation, adherence to the “big lie”, surge in racist, fascist and authoritarian discourse coming from Republican politicians and fringe groups, curtailing of a woman’s right to choose, emboldening of fascist foreign leaders and efforts by the Republican party to disenfranchise millions of voters and threaten the foundation of democracy in this country. Join us, as we rally the majority to raise up their voices and remind the alt right that they don’t speak for us. www.dontspeak.me
