Ralph Joseph Celentano III, 54, of Broad Channel, New York, is charged in a criminal complaint filed in the District of Columbia with assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers, civil disorder, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds, and related offenses. He was arrested in Broad Channel and will make his initial appearance today in the Eastern District of New York.
According to court documents, Celentano was among the crowd of rioters at the West Terrace of the Capitol on Jan. 6. He was captured on video and security cameras with a flag as well as a folding chair affixed to a backpack on his back. Celentano approached a uniformed Capitol Police officer from behind and made physical contact, causing the officer to fall over a ledge and onto a terrace below. The officer later recalled being “blind-sided” from behind in a “football-type tackle.” The officer, an Iraq war veteran, also recalled thinking, “I didn’t survive a war to go out like this.”

The FBI had several recordings of Celentano outside the Capitol on Jan. 6 thanks to open-source video and security cameras, according to court documents. His look was “distinctive,” investigators said, noting his long hair, Trump flag, two-toned jacket and backpack affixed with a folding chair.
One video showed Celentano crouched behind a Capitol Police officer as he peered over a ledge on the West Terrace, stills of the recording in court documents show. Celentano can be seen pushing the officer over the ledge, investigators said. The attack was a “football-type tackle,” the officer later told investigators, adding that he was “blindsided.”
The officer, an Iraq War veteran, immediately focused on standing up, disregarding any possibility that he was injured, court documents say. He said he was scared that if he didn’t get up, he would be “stomped on” by the mob.
“I didn’t survive a war to go out like this,” he thought in the moment, he told investigators.

Law & Crime
After posting a “Be On the Lookout” photo of their suspect, the FBI says that it received a tip about Celentano’s photographs on social media accounts. One showed him in a large group at a social function, which was also posted on the Facebook page of a group called The Jenny Albert Sea Turtle Foundation, authorities say.
The FBI says it interviewed a volunteer at the organization who identified Celentano as “Ralphie” or “Ralph.” A second witness knew Celentano for more than 13 years, authorities say.
Authorities also traced an EZ Pass toll transponder information connected to Celentano’s “friend/significant other,” which showed that vehicle departing Broad Channel, New York on the morning of Jan. 6, 2021, at approximately 3 a.m., and returning a day later on the evening of Jan. 7, 2021, at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Here’s the Criminal Complaint and Statement of Facts… I’ve added a list of the charges Celentano is facing below:
