Missouri State Assembly Republican Brian Seitz seeks to sentence women suffering from an ectopic pregnancy to death. He has introduced Missouri House Bill 2810 which criminalizes trafficking in abortion inducing devices or drugs. The mere trafficking in these things is a Class B felony (5 to 15 years in prison). However, if the device or drug is actually used to induce or attempt to induce an abortion on a woman who has an ectopic pregnancy, that aggravates the offense raising it to a Class A felony (10 to 30 years).
To fully grasp the genocidal insanity of this, an ectopic (or extrauterine) pregnancy is when a fertilized egg implants itself outside the uterus (generally in a fallopian tube) and begins to grow from there. An essential point here is that the developing “fetus” cannot possibly survive to birth. It is not in the uterus, no placenta can form, and it is not a viable pregnancy. In the blunt words of the Mayo Clinic, “the fertilized egg can’t survive.”
Not only can the fetus not survive, the woman suffering an ectopic pregnancy also can’t survive without an abortion. Once again in the words of the Mayo Clinic, “the growing tissue may cause life-threatening bleeding, if left untreated.” In fact, ectopic pregnancies kill women every year. Approximately 10% of the pregnancy related deaths in America every year are from ectopic pregnancies. Approximately 11,000 ectopic pregnancies occur in America every year, and Brian Seitz’s bill would, if applied nationally, kill nearly all of them.
An ectopic pregnancy is already a death sentence for a fertilized egg. This Republican would also make it a death sentence for the woman suffering the ectopic pregnancy. This death sentence would apply even for a woman who wanted to get pregnant and who wanted to have the baby.
If it seems difficult to imagine the senselessly misogynistic sadistic evil behind this. However, the same bill also makes it a Class A felony if the abortion is performed on a victim of sex trafficking.
