The “Cantrell Cousins” is not some country music group, but you might think so from the description provided by the local media and law enforcement who arrested three cousins — the Cantrells — from the Hoosier State for partaking in the Jan 6th insurreciton. Besides the fact that this seems like the making of tale about three cousins who go on a magical journal, what struck me about their plight is that one of them IS A FUCKING LAWYER!
No, the lawyer in question among the three idiot cousins was not identified by the DOJ or even the usual media sources in Indiana. Instead, it was done by a daily called The Indiana Lawyer. And it was from The Indiana Lawyer that we learn that Quentin G. Cantrell is a lawyer.
An Indianapolis attorney is one of three men who were arrested yesterday for allegedly taking part in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. The attorney is accused of climbing down a wall and entering the Capitol building during the riot.
Quentin G. Cantrell was arrested in Indiana on Thursday after a criminal complaint was filed alleging four federal offenses related to the Jan. 6 riot that sought to disrupt the certification of President Joe Biden’s electoral victory. Cantrell is listed as being with the Indianapolis firm Woodard Emhardt Henry Reeves & Wagner, according to the Indiana Roll of Attorneys.
Also arrested were Jared Paul Cantrell and Eric Andrew Cantrell. The three men, identified in court documents as the “Cantrell Cousins,” are charged with entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly conduct in a Capitol building; and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
According to a statement of facts filed by FBI Task Force Officer Gary A. Warfield, video from the riot allegedly shows Quentin Cantrell on the West Terrace of the U.S. Capitol, where he “appears to attempt to climb down the wall as Eric Andrew Cantrell reaches down to help him.”
Emphasis is mine. This will important once you read some of what the DOJ Statement of Facts has one of the Cantrell Cousins stating about what was REALLY going on. SPOILER ALERT: He’s lying his off!
A search warrant to Facebook for the content of Jared Paul Cantrell’s account revealed thefollowing posts made by the user of the account:
• January 6, 2021: “I was one of the first 50 in.”
• January 6, 2021: “Forceful entrance.”
• January 7, 2021: “I do not think I broke any laws. I have not been to the capitol before and was a big reason I went in the first place. I didn’t go over anybarricades or push through any police. They were letting folks in and at no pointwas there any verbal Indication from any authority to not go in. The door was open and I peeked in. I assume that if you took something, broker something, orwent further into the building where you may have had to breach some barrier, that would be prosecuted. If it was illegal, it didn’t seem like it.”
• January 7, 2021: “. . . They had entire lines of police officers in riot gear off tothe side not doing anything. I thought they were purposefully letting people ineasily so that they could trap them inside, but they only went after ones who touched something or went into offices of other parts of building. The rotundawas wide open though.”
• January 7, 2021: “I was there as an observer.”
• January 7, 2021: “it seemed more civil than portrayed. Not saying it was civil, but reading all the articles on the way back definitely shined a very differentlight on the situation. It felt odd and scripted at the capitol with the police.People scaling the capitol building was quite a sight to behold though.”
• January 8, 2021: “I know that from my perspective not one barrier was beached[sic] and not a single cop was pushed past. I told myself I wanted to see andwould walk as close as I could until there was resistance. I never had anyresistance going in. I condemn any violence, looting, or racism. It was weird,on my side, the doors were open and people simply walked in, definitely nothow it was portrayed on TV. I think the FBI is interested in violent offenders, orthose destroying property.”
• January 8, 2021: “. . . Luckily I didn’t remain. Was in for a total of 4 minutes.”
• January 11, 2021: “. . . I can say this, my only goal was to get as close as I couldto the action without breaking a barrier. I be [sic] never even overstepped a curblet along pushed past a police officer.”
• January 11, 2021: “I just updated my profile pic to be of one inside the capbuilding by the way.”In addition to the above posts, on or about J
Emphasis is mine. One of the Cantrell’s claims “forceful entrance, “ then, magically the police just moved aside and let them all in. They thought it all looked so peaceful. No broken barricades. And they certainly DID NOT THINK THEY WERE BREAKING ANY LAWS!
I’m sure it was at this part that the legal brains of the three piped up that this all entirely legal.
A question though. If they are just letting you in, all so peaceful, why are you all scaling down from the West Entrance to gain entry? If they make it difficult for you to get in somewhere, shouldn’t that be a sign that it might be illegal? In the noble words of Tucker Carslon, “I’m just asking questions.”
Well, it seems the Cantrell Cousins are in the hoosgow now. I’m sure because they do not have a criminal background — as far as I know of — that they will get bail. Then, they will get the usual plea offer of a misdemeanor with no real jail time, except I am not entirely certain that any deal with an attorney breaking the law should be a misdemeanor with no jail time. Shouldn’t the Indiana Bar look into Mr. Quentin Cantrell about his law license?
I’m just asking questions.
