I was going to set my clock ahead. I really was. I made a note of it Saturday evening, wrote it down even…………...and then……………….I forgot. Forgot totally and completely.
However — maybe my subconscious was on the job — I woke up early. My normal rising time is about 6:30, I get over to Dad’s house every morning at 8AM to drink coffee and watch the news together before walking Herbie at 9.
So Sunday morning I woke up at 5:30 (or what I THOUGHT was 5:30). Congratulating myself on being early for once, I got up and was puttering around — and then I went in and fired up the computer. Oh crap. 7:15. That’s right. It’s Spring Forward time. I sighed, seeing my extra hour of chore-doing, kitty-pleasing game-playing time evaporate. Oh well. I was actually right on schedule with the new Daylight Saving hours.
Well that would have been the end of it, except at 7:45, just before I was getting ready to leave, I get a call. I look at the caller ID. Dad. Hmmmm. Hope all is well. I answer, he says “You forgot, didn’t you?”. Now at this point I am still right on time so I ask him “whatever do you mean?”. He says “well it’s a quarter to 9 — you didn’t set your clock did you?". Triumphant, I pounced — “you are confused, O Aged One — it is a quarter to 8 — I will be there in a few minutes”. He says “no way” then apparently checks the clock, mutters some, and says “oh yeah yeah I guess you’re right”.
Of course when I got there I didn’t have the heart to let him go on being depressed all day about getting it so wrong (such incidents bother you a great deal when you are 91 — the spectre of dementia is never entirely out of your mind). So I told him, well I forgot too — it was just luck that I got up what I thought was early.
So then he was happy. “I KNEW IT” he crows. “I KNEW you would forget!”. I said “just think how I’ll be when I’m as old as you”. And he sez “what makes you think you’ll be as old as me?” And on and on, etc etc etc.
I told him next time he springs forward, not to spring so far. He says well I can barely walk to the bathroom so no danger of that.
Herbie doesn’t know from Daylight Savings Time. To him, the whole point was that Mom showed up a whole hour EARLY to do his walk. Oh joy! Oh rapture!
And the boys? They don’t care what time it is. Bothering Mom is a 24/7 job and they never slack at it.
Happy Monday all! Hope the time change has made no one late for work, but if you are, blame it on Dad. He confused everybody. Hugs to all.
