Actually, no. That’s just a stock photo. My dog is a shih tzu. He just got back from the groomer, and he looks like his head got shrunk. He resents the time I spend on GOTV. But I am saving America! One voter at a time!
I wrote a couple hundred post cards for the GA Senate race and was astounded in a very happy way with both Democrats won. I hope that my “Be a Georgia Peach and Vote” postcards helped.
Everyone thinks the Democrats are going to get creamed in the upcoming midterms and there are plenty of reasons why. The key will be, as always, turnout, so I have started already on GOTV and I thought other Kos readers might be started too. Maybe we can inspire others to get started on GOTV! Here's what I am doing:
Monthly donations to
Every day I give time to writing postcards and notes. My goal is to write at least one thousand personal messages to voters.
-
Through Vote Forward I write thank you notes with a non-partisan message. “Thank you for being a voter! We get better people elected with LOTS of us vote. Midterm elections are important because local and state government officials make decisions that affect our daily lives. Please vote! Thank you and best wishes.” I bought boxes of very pretty, flowery thank you notes to use. My letters are going to Georgia.

Turn PA Blue. I have a problem here. I ordered five hundred post cards which I thought were going to be pre-addressed. Well, they aren't! TPB said they would send me addresses but none have shown up. I have been using the postcards for my Postcards to Swing States project. Update: I got an email from them, and the addresses will be here shortly.
-
Postcards to Swing States I signed up to write three hundred, split between AZ, NV, and NH. I am using the PA postcards now but will switch to thank you notes if TPB ever sends me addresses. Or maybe I'll just the Detroit phone book on line and find my own addresses.
So that's it. To write, I get comfortable and put on some music. I set short goals for myself :maybe write five letters. At the end of the goal, I set another one, maybe five more. I find I get more done that way. I only write until I get bored. If I push myself too much, I'll get sick of it and not be able to write at all!
So that's what I am up to and I hope it helps.
PS: The first time I saw “GOTV” I thought it was a TV station.
