My grandmother died in 1985. My mother had her cremated and spread the ashes in Bisby, Az, where we had family.
My baby brother died in 1994, My brother in law had him cremated and spread his ashes in little bits in all their favorite places over the next few years.
I don’t know if either of these were done by the Neptune Society, but when it came time, we bought their services for my father, my mother, my last brother, me and now for Bill.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

I didn’t read any of the reviews online before I decided to get Bill’s arrangments taken care of. Over the years, I had 3 interactions with them that led me to choose them again. When my father died, I was able to call them, tell them the hospital we were in, and leave then, taking my sobbing mother and sister home. They took care of everything and we went out on the boat and spread his ashes at sea as he wanted.
When my last brother died, he was at home with us in hospice care. We called them, they coordinated with the hospice folks and were there very quickly. They took care of his ashes.
When my mother died, we called from the hospital and they came to deal with everything. The ashes were returned to us and I have them now. My sister and I talk about spreading them but meanwhile, I talk to her.
There are less expensive service providers, I am sure although I never did any research because by the time the internet was available to google every damn thing, I had used their services. I am only telling you my personal interactions with them.
I didn’t any problems or complaints when mama and I bought hers, my brother’s and mine in 2009. Using the service was a load off our minds when we did. I had no problems when I bought Bill’s a few weeks ago. No hard sell, no evasive answers or lack of answers, I was ready to pay so that was not a problem. The gentleman I dealt with on the phone read all the info, showed what he was reading online and made sure I understood, sent all the documents as PDF’s and in real life. I am glad to have it taken care of.
I did not order a memorial service or ashes at sea. It is the cremation, complete with all the documents, permits, licenses, and certificates with the ashes sent to me. I have received the “urn” and it is stored under mine in the closet, with the paper work and a note on the front that says “If I am dead, read this letter, call these people.”
*The image is called the snake and the sun. I found it when I was googling for something else and wasn’t sure it was my work. It is and here it is to fill in the space.
