Super-short diary here, would be better as a comment in one of Marissa Higgins’ diaries; but, since we don’t want any little bit of good news to go unnoticed: The GOP governor of Indiana has vetoed the anti-trans bill (Guardian; not sure if that’s pay-walled) focused on banning transgender kids in sports. His rationale, while true, focuses only on the practical issue: There isn’t a problem in need of being fixed. It’s important that is stated, and even more important that the bill was vetoed. But, he still had to go out of his way to show he wouldn’t take the actual moral stand that trans kids should be allowed to live their own lives, as fully as any other kids. From the Guardian story linked above:
“The presumption of the policy laid out in HEA 1041 is that there is an existing problem in K-12 sports in Indiana that requires further state government intervention,” Holcomb said. “It implies that the goals of consistency and fairness in competitive female sports are not currently being met. After thorough review, I find no evidence to support either claim even if I support the effort overall.”
