It is Friday! What a week it has been. Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is on the precipice of history, on the cusp of becoming the first black woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. Sadly, as in most great moments in American history where someone perseveres for years before achieving some great milestone for humanity, Judge Jackson must face off against the last burps of bigotry available to the ruling class who are impotent to stop this moment in time. Calling the GOP’s grandstanding attacks during Jackson’s nominee hearings “racist” is like calling the GOP establishment racist. They are. They always have been. And they have shown no interest in deviating at all from that American tradition of divisive power play.
At the same time, the Supreme Court seems to be filled with very compromised individuals like Justice Clarence Thomas, who may or may not be very ill. With the release of more evidence that Thomas’s wife Ginni was an active organizer and participant in the attempted overthrow of our democratically held elections, renewed calls for his resignation are echoing throughout the country. Justice Thomas’ hypocrisy is only matched by his fellow Republicans, some of who are being charged with fraud while others are admitting to participating in abortions they consider their own “private” business.
