I have tended to write and comment about the spring thaw in Ukraine lately. It’s coming up.
My own contribution to this will be brief except to say that there is an utterly fascinating thread on Twitter, regarding mud, tires, and that forty-mile convoy. I am sending the link to the first tweet.
There are many former military on DailyKOS. I would be very interested to read your impression of the above thread.
March 4th UPDATE: wow, thanks for reading this, and the comments and all the recs. The credit goes to the tire guy who wrote the original thread. His name is Trent Tolenko.
and I especially recommend the comment by Prairie Pilot. At this point, you would need to scroll through hundreds of comments to get there, so I am making an editorial decision to move it to the top:

I’ve actually been putting some thought into this apparently stranded column. While anybody with a lick of sense wants to hit that column the way we hit Saddam Hussein’s troops on the road to Basra, the more I think about it, unless and until it shows signs of being able to move, attacking it is a bad idea. Being self immobilized is actually a better situation for the Ukrainians. First, it’s tying up a huge amount of resources. Second, it’s even better at undermining Russian Army morale than a wholesale slaughter ever would, without creating a potential rallying cry. And third, it has effectively neutralized one of Russia’s main lines of attack with virtually no Ukrainian effort. If I were to recommend any effort against this column, it would be limited attacks on the Russian mobile air defenses in order to force the Russians to put even more effort into protecting it, and to keep every Russian in that column aware of their vulnerability.
