Lonnie Coffman of Alabama, 72 years young, thought he would go to D.C. on Jan 6th on a mission to find out from someone in authority if his vote counted. Well, let’s see that quote about his mild mannered intentions:
“My objective was to try to discover just how true and secure was the election on November 3rd, 2020. Did my vote go to the people I intended it to?” Coffman wrote.
“When I realized just how unrealistic it was for me to think I could get close enough to anyone who would even listen to me, I walked around on the outskirts of the event briefly, then left and started back to where my vehicle was parked.”
Too bad Lonnie Coffman was carrying around an unregistered handgun on his person.
And too bad for Coffman that the police found the following in his truck:
Items found in Coffman’s truck parked near the Capitol that day included 11 Molotov cocktails in mason jars, a loaded 9 mm handgun, a loaded rifle, several large-capacity ammunition-feeding devices loaded with more than 10 rounds of rifle ammunition, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a crossbow with bolts, several machetes, camouflage smoke devices, and stun gun.
Molotov cocktails. Another handgun already loaded. A loaded rifle. Plenty of ammunition. A CROSSBOW WITH BOLTS! AND SEVERAL MACHETES!
I bet this mofo cheered when he heard Rudy Guiliani call for “trial by combat.” But oh no. Coffman claims he was not there to hurt anyone or do damage!
“Your Honor, I accept full responsibility for my actions on January 5th and 6th in the year of my Lord,’’ Coffman said a five-page handwritten letter made public in court records this week. “I had no intentions to hurt anyone or destroy any property and I did not do either.”
Then why all those weapons Dude?
Oh, did I mention that Coffman is tied to one of those terrorist groups who claim they are a militia?
Investigators also found contact information for a member of a Southeast Texas militia group called the American Patriots in Coffman's wallet after he was taken into custody.
Court records revealed federal agents first flagged Coffman in 2014, when he was spotted armed at a Texas militia compound known as Camp Lonestar.
By the way, did you know one of those people Coffman wanted to meet with was Senator Ted Cruz of Texas?
When investigators obtained court authorization to pull the GPS tracking data from Coffman's truck, they learned Jan. 6 was not Coffman's first visit to the capitol.
On Dec. 11, 2020, Coffman allegedly drove around the U.S. Capitol and attempted to drive to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's home.
According to court records, Capitol police then linked Coffman to a call made to Cruz's office on the same day. A Cruz staff member told police the caller did not seem threatening but his comments were "odd enough to record."
The caller, who prosecutors allege to be Coffman, said he tried to go to the senator's D.C. home and wanted to arrange a meeting. The caller also asked for contact information for FOX News host Sean Hannity, according to court records.
Hey Ted! Someone wanted to help you out with sedition! Why didn’t you meet with Coffman?
Oh wait, there is more?
Handwritten notes were initially found in Coffman's truck containing names of prominent politicians and media personalities. Coffman referred to a conservative news outlet as "good" and a federal judge as "bad," in addition to singling out a U.S. representative for being Muslim.
Contact information for Cruz was included in the notes.
Prosecutors in January said the "handwritten messages raise alarm in the context of the Jan. 6 rioting and criminal infringement on our nation's democratic process."
No, what we have here is that Coffman wasn’t going to get close enough to use any of his toys to kill the right people. Seeing he couldn’t get close, Coffman went back to his truck where police waited. The cops had noticed a gun in his truck while he was gone, and they moved in to secure it. That’s when they found all the fun killing toys.
And it seems that maybe all those weapons are the reason that Coffman has been sitting in jail every since Jan 6th.
Which brings us up to today. Coffman has entered a plea agreement with the government, and he is charged in one count with walking around D.C. with an unregistered firearm. And Coffman is pleading with the judge to show mercy to his dumbass.
Seems the food sucks in prison, and prison is filled with some dangerous people:
He also addressed his concerns about poor prison food – such as a meal of cheese, wheat or white bread, apple sauce and chopped up carrots – and some violence.
“We are at the mercy of some very unbridled and unsavory people,’’ he wrote.
Coffman told the judge that he wanted to make this statement in person but, “I was afraid that my nerves would fail me, and I would make a mess of presenting it, because of my depression.”
“I am pleading with you now your Honor, please be lenient as you determine what my future will be,’’ Coffman wrote. “I ask the court to be mercyful (sic) when considering my sentence.”
If I read the plea agreement correctly, the sentencing guideline for Coffman is 37-46 months. I pray that the judge will not go all soft on Coffman and just give him time served. This is one of those cases where the police stopped a very dangerous man before he killed someone. Just because Coffman didn’t get to kill someone and being old should NOT give him a pass. And Coffman is only crying the blues because he got caught.
