THIS is what state-enforced propaganda looks like … George Orwell has nothing over them.
Journalists from Russia's last independent news network are fleeing the country
www.wdsu.com — CNN, Mar 2, 2022

Most media outlets in Russia have followed state orders to toe Vladimir Putin's line, for example by not calling Russia's invasion of Ukraine an "invasion." The global live-stream of Russia Today, for example, refers to it as a "special operation," parroting Putin's words, instead of "war."
TV Rain and Ekho Moskvy's determination to air journalism in defiance of the Kremlin have made them targets.
TV Rain's YouTube channel is still accessible outside Russia, but its website is not loading for Russian internet users, according to GlobalCheck, a service that tracks internet censorship.

That Orwellian descent can happen fast. All it takes is a compliant legislature … and a cowed populace.
Russia’s independent media, long under siege, teeters under new Putin crackdown
www.washingtonpost.com — Mar 5, 2022
Ivan Kolpakov, editor in chief of Meduza, one of Russia’s most popular independent media outlets, had been expecting the government to block the public’s access to his website every day since the war with Ukraine began.
On Friday morning it finally happened. But then Russia’s parliament went further, passing a law banning what it considers “fake” news about the military, including any rhetoric that calls the invasion of Ukraine an “invasion” — the preferred language is “special military operation” — with a potential 15-year prison sentence. Putin signed it into law hours later.
“Our sources say they are likely to use this against journalists,” said Kolpakov, speaking from a location he would not disclose.

"We are facing a real threat. It's getting harder to work here," anchor Ekaterina Kotrikadze, who is married to Dzyadko, said from Moscow on Sunday's "Reliable Sources."
"They are trying to make us, you know, deliver the same message as they do," she said, "but you know it's impossible for us to work like this."
On Tuesday, Dzyadko told CNN's Christiane Amanpour that "they don't want us to spread real information about deaths among civilians, about deaths among Russian soldiers."

Here’s some more from [former] anchor and news director Ekaterina Kotrikadze — to put a human face on Putin’s Other War — on what he has labelled “Fake News”:

Donald Trump Brands US Media 'Enemy Of The People' In Latest 'Fake News' Rant
www.huffingtonpost.co.uk — Feb 19, 2017
On Friday the US President ranted on social media (again) about “fake news” outlets, tagging the New York Times, NBC News, ABC, CBS and CNN.

[...] Human Rights Watch advising that the US President read their webpage on press freedom.
These early shrill attacks on the Free Press, eventually morphed into a more bland generic incantation — meant to deny any sort of accountability: “Fake News!”
And avoid accountability — he did. Just like his strongman mentor does.
Just like Putin is calling real Journalism in Russia, now. Taking a page out of the Trump Playbook.
Some say it can’t happen here … others think it’s only a matter of time …
