The index-diaries listed above left are in continual revision for current & new data, but it does take about a year for a full go-round to check every entry. In the interim, group admins can kosmail to me for corrections (e.g., name-changes, or in case yr group shows as inactive —no diaries reblogged or posted for a year or so— but actually is active currently), additions, mergers, info such as whether you ‘meet’ on a regular day/time, etc. Please be sure to include in the kosmail a link to yr group’s homepage (or if yr having trouble finding it, I can help) so the correct group entry gets fixt.
.
To follow a group, click on the homepage link and then, when you’re there, on the FOLLOW GROUP button a little way down the lefthand column of that page.
You’ll also see the list of group admins in case you want to kosmail to one of them, such as to request to join the group in order to be able to originate diaries with the group’s name in your by-line, &/or to be able to reblog diaries to the group — your own diaries or other appropriate ones you find.
Only editors and admins can freely reblog and post; contributors (the initial-join rank) can only put drafts & diaries into the group queue, and then need to reach an editor or admin for completing the process. Some group admins promote all new members to editor rank right away, but being added to a group and being promoted are privileges according to each group’s aims/purposes and policies, not automatic rights of all kosaks.
Only admins can add members, promote, demote, or remove. So, a group with no admins active in DK can’t do any of that. But so long as a group has active editors, reblogging can still go on. In that case, click on the name of an active editor in order to request reblogging of an appropriate diary, even if you’re not in the group.
To see which group members are currently active, click on the MEMBERS link in the row of links just below the mast-head of their homepage….
...and scroll down — you’ll see admins displayed first, by order of how recently they’ve posted a comment or diary, then editors (order ditto), then contributors.
For the most timely response, always send the message to an individual admin or editor —or two of them!— because messages to group don’t give ANYONE a new-message alert.
If you’re requesting reblog of a diary, be sure to include the diary’s URL — if hardworking admins and editors can’t promptly reach it to reblog it, they have too much work on their hands to duplicate the effort of finding it that’s information YOU already had.
For more diaries in the NewDKGroups series, click here. For more groups listed according to various other criteria moderately chaotic in nature ;-) click on the GROUPS link/button on your own DK4-style profile page — it’s just below the space in the middle of DAILY KOS near the top — and for reverse date-order listings then click RECENT. on the page you’ll be shown.
To reach your own DK4 profile page, click on your kosmail/envelope icon at any blogview/DK5 page, and when the system takes you there, look toward the top margin — there it is!
Another way to find groups is to use the site’s Search function — starting either at a blogview page (top illus.) or at any dk4-type page (lower illus.)
— enter pretty much any kind of topic you hope there’s a group for, and when you get THIS kind of page, click on the tiny word Groups where the little brown squiggle is showing right below there:
Chances are, there isn’t any dk group with the word “search” in it’s original name, but “chess” or “political” or “PWB” (pooties, woozles, birdies) might be. You can find the Backyard Science group, for example, by putting either of those two words (or possibly both) onto the Contains line. The term you search does have to be in the original group name (some groups change their names, sometimes) because that’s what’ll be in the group’s URLs, e.g.
https://www.dailykos.com/blog/Backyard%20Science
The site’s search engine only can look for what’s in URLs when hunting for kinds of groups.
So, for example, if you had lost track of Daily Kos Emerging Fellows and searched to find it again, you’d need to remember that only their initials are in their URL (a lot of groups only have initials there), i.e.
https://www.dailykos.com/groups/DKEF
Most of the other diaries in the #NewDKGroups series have some site-tech info like this, repetitive or not. But there’s 27 of them, spotlighting recently formed groups clear back to 2019 or so, so ya never know, there might be some useful details back there. ;-)
