So, watched a movie favorite of mine again this week, Tomorrowland. Got me thinking long and hard. Even in my demented dreams. And it made me wonder: Have too many of us given up on the dreams of a Tomorrow? Science fiction has always been a mainstay of my childhood, a method of escape to better world, a brighter world. In many stories, the main character fights the odds towards a better world; if not for themselves, then for their family or society ay large. Somewhere along the way the flame of peak hope sputtered, dancing to a new wind. is the fuel of hope running low? Or perhaps the ever-blowing winds of change shifted, making the flame dance wildly and almost going out.
But that spark of hope still remains, much like that found in Pandora’s Box. For those that don’t remember (remember when they taught Mythology in school?), inside Pandora’s box was Evil; greed, envy, cruelty, hunger, etc. But, at the bottom, she found that spark of Hope, and she let it out into the world. Is hope an illusion? I don’t think so, but despair is easier to achieve in some. And the question reminds me of Governor Nix’ speech in Tomorrowland, the movie that I mentioned earlier:
If we are to have a world for tomorrow and future generations, we will have to fight for it (and against despair). And, dare I say it on a holy day for some, we will need to become modern day Lucifer’s, Light-Bearers, bearing the light of hope for a better tomorrow. So many allegories, so little time...
