The Second Civil War
I’m old enough to have viewed the original broadcast of Star Trek. I did not miss any of the episodes even though I often was working at our high school dances. During the dance I would set up a portable TV in the room next to the gym and watch the episode. Even though I was young I was influenced by Roddenberry’s vision of a future where humanity overcomes poverty, greed and politics based on hate.
Strange New Words portends to return to Roddenberry’s original hopeful vision for humanity. But, not without a great struggle. A few days ago Paramount released the opening episode for free viewing and I was able to view it. What caught my eye is the segment displayed in the screen captures below.
Captain Pike while visiting a new planet intervenes between the two warring factions and reveals the existence of the Federation to them. In a dramatic “beam in” using the transporter he stands between the leaders of the two factions and give the traditional optimistic speech that James Kirk was noted for. And during that speech, somehow, a montage of images appear on the display screen in the conference hall hosting the meeting between the two enemies.
The montage is “historical” pictures and video of earth’s past and humanity’s struggle. And I do not need to point out that some of the clips are from the January 6th, 2021 insurrection and armed attack on America.

We called it the Second Civil War, then the Eugenics War,and finally just World War III. |

Yesterday, in a conversation with an acquaintance I casually mentioned the second civil war as if it was a fact. They were a bit shocked. What are your thoughts. Are we moving ever faster into the Second Civil War? (Note: I could have said “into a Second Civil War” but I chose to say “into the Second Civil War.)
