Who has biked a half century pulling upwards of 500 pounds?
I did on day four of our bicycle ride from Mokane to our destination in Columbia, Boone County, MO.
Having a good bike and trailer help, but no more than the resources and kind people around me. I have been welcomed at each stop on this journey.
God forbid that an unhoused family show up and encamp. We don't have the services.
Why is that? Cause, for decades we've been cutting back from what was never enough, and criminalizing poverty. Poor are not always welcome in communities already struggling with their own declining populations.
Nobody should be left out and pushed down to nobody cares. That's doesn't help them care about their own plights, or give them any incentive to got better, if our wasteful consumer society is even better than feeding drug addictions.
At any rate, my camp was acceptable for a day. Now I'm in a friend's home where I am welcome to recuperate for a day or two.. I'm going to get us a big dinner, because I survived on frozen pizza for two days, and I can afford more.
Them I'm riding the four days back to a house I own, where I can recuperate again.
