McConnell wants a policy-free midterm campaign
[...] McConnell is similarly opaque when it comes to his caucus’s priorities should it retake the majority.
“That is a very good question,” he told NBC News. “And I’ll let you know when we take it back. … This midterm election will be a report card on the performance of this entire Democratic government: the president, the House and the Senate.”
The calculation Senate Republican leaders appear to have made is that any proposals they put forward might divert attention from Biden’s troubles [...]

McConnell: No legislative agenda for 2022 midterms
Mitch McConnell has told colleagues and donors Senate Republicans won't release a legislative agenda before next year's midterms, according to people who've attended private meetings with the minority leader.
[...]
During the mid-November dinner, McConnell told the donor it would be the job of the next Republican nominee for president in 2024 to lay out the party's future agenda.
- Until then, Republicans should be 100% focused on Democrats and all the "terrible" things they're doing to the country, McConnell said, according to the source.
- McConnell made clear, the source said, the entire focus of the 2022 campaign should be about the things the Democrats are doing wrong. He cited the history of midterm losses for the party in power.
[...]
Between the lines: A top GOP operative, who didn't attend the dinner but has often heard such conversations involving McConnell, said these kinds of discussions happen regularly with the Republican leader.
- "It happens all the time," the source told Axios. "Donors especially are always asking for an agenda of some kind and McConnell pushes back hard. Because he knows that all it does is take the focus off unpopular Dem policies and gives Dems something tangible to tear apart."
- "One of the biggest mistakes challengers often make is thinking campaigns are about them and their ideas," the source continued. "No one gives a sh-t about that. Elections are referendums on incumbents."
- "Challengers need to keep the focus on what incumbents promised and point out how they failed to deliver and how that has negatively impacted voters' lives," the source said.

McConnell clashes with Rick Scott over Republican agenda
Mitch McConnell and Senate Republican leaders are warning Rick Scott that his agenda for the GOP could expose the party to unnecessary attacks this fall.
www.politico.com — Mar 1, 2022
Mitch McConnell and Senate Republican leaders are warning Rick Scott that his agenda for the GOP could expose the party to unnecessary attacks this fall, a significant intraparty rebuke of the Floridian.
[...] his 11-point proposal gave Democrats ammunition for millions of dollars of ads in the midterms, according to multiple people briefed on the exchange.
[...]
“Let me tell you what will not be a part of our agenda: We will not have as part of our agenda a bill that raises taxes on half the American people and sunsets Social Security and Medicare after five years. That will not be part of the Republican Senate majority agenda,” McConnell said.
And McConnell made clear he’s planning to be fully in charge in 2023:
“If we’re fortunate enough to have the majority next year, I’ll be the majority leader. I’ll decide, in consultation with my members, what to put on the floor.”
He didn’t offer specifics of what his agenda would be beyond topics like inflation, border security, crime and energy.
Well Rick Scott did offer specifics — you know the guy in charge of getting Republicans to re-take the Senate. Dems should repeat the specifics of this GOP PLATFORM every chance they get:
Senator Rick Scott announces his 11-point plan to ‘Rescue America’
www.winknews.com — Mar 30, 2022
[...]
Scott’s plan has 11-points. Points number five and six get under the skin of his fellow Republican senators.
Five says the nation must balance the budget and call for all Americans to pay income tax, even if a small amount.
Six says there should be 12-year limits for members of Congress and all federal legislation sunsets in five years. If a law is worth keeping Congress can pass it again.
“Let me tell you what will not be a part of our agenda. We will not have a part of our agenda a bill that raises taxes on half of the American people and sunsets, Social Security and Medicare within five years. That will not be part of the Senate majority agenda,” said Kentucky Republican and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
It’s clearly not his intention, but Scott might actually be bringing Republicans and Democrats together.
[...]
Rick Scott’s plan is specific. Lots of, do this and don’t do that, but that is not what the Republican leadership wants right now.
When a reporter asked McConnell what his agenda would be if Republicans take back the senate, he said ask me when we win.
If you’d like to read Rick Scott’s ‘Rescue America’ plan, you can do so by clicking here.
If you trust Mitch McConnell NOT TO pick up Scott’s 11-Point Plan — and run with it — if he gets back in power … well I got another McConnell “promise” that never saw the light of day. Mitch does whatever is best for Mitch — Period! What’s best for the American People has NOTHING to do with it ...
Mitch McConnell will do what ever the conservative think tanks tell him to do — he’s proven that time and time again. Just recall the Tax-Giveaway to Millionaires, if you need any reminders on that score …
The GOP may have some sniveling complaints, crazy theories, and distortions, about:
inflation, border security, crime, and energy
But no REAL SOLUTIONS on any of them, when pressed on the topics …
We’ll tell you later — After you elect us.
Is really not an answer. Not much of a Policy either — more like a blank-check, made payable to The Whiny Grievance Party.
It’s our job to make them own the Rick Scott Plan — or put out an official platform to replace it.
Put up or Shut up, Mitch.
Although most of us would probably prefer the latter option, if we had a choice in the matter.

The GOP is still working for the privileged-few … same as it ever was:
What they’re doing to Roe, they will soon be doing to YOU — and or social safety nets.
Don’t listen to what they say — Watch what they DO.
When they show you who they really are — believe them, the first time.
Listen up America. The GOP is NOT looking out for you.
