As I mentioned last week, I spent Wednesday thru Sunday morning in Nashville for a covid-delayed music jam with 70 of my favorite musicians and music-lovers from my virtual world of Second Life. It was an absolute blast, with more music made and enjoyed than I’ve had since October 2019, and waaaay less sleep. Which usually isn’t a problem, because I come home and crash hard for a night, then arrive back here to pen my weekly diary.
While I was on my flight from Nashville to JFK, Jet Blue cancelled my 7pm connecting from JFK to Boston’s Logan Airport. They did call to tell me, but I was in the freeking air at the time so couldn’t answer, yanno? So I landed to find they’d helpfully rebooked me on a flight leaving at 9am today and landing… not at Logan, but 50 miles away in Worcester.
I was directed to customer service (cheerfully named Just Ask) where the first person I spoke to told me she could do absolutely nothing for me, including hotel voucher or a way home from Worcester, and said if I stayed there in front of her she’d ‘have me removed’. So I got back in line and the NEXT person I got was far more helpful. He confirmed that (1) there were zero flights out from JFK that evening on any airline; (2) the first flight to Logan with an available seat was at 10pm today; and (3) maybe he could get me a cheap hotel room. I already knew I couldn’t make it to Amtrak in time to catch a train, and it was going to be a very expensive seat.
And then my Rescue Hero, aka Mr. Brillig, said “I could come get you.” He started driving, and four hours later in front of the TWA hotel, my rescue chariot arrived! We made it home at 3am and so in a drastic understatement, I’m a little tired today.
Before I take us to the Tops (tonight’s plus the weekend), a fun fact:
Because Mr. Brillig came to get me, I didn’t need the stupid flight this morning, and so as directed by my helpful Just Ask guy, I called 1-800-JET-BLUE. After a 72 minute hold, I reached a cheerful woman who said that yes, she could reimburse me for the leg of the flight.
It took us close to an hour to determine that no. No she could not. I assumed that she’d see what a flight from JFK to Logan would have cost last night, and credit me. But you can’t do that, apparently. At 45 minutes of her telling me it would be ‘just another minute’ and two supervisors, and what I presume was multidimensional calculus, she said she could NOT reimburse me for the JFK -> Boston leg but she COULD…
...reimburse me for the ENTIRE return flight. I quickly agreed that was acceptable, and see a growth opportunity for software developers to fix that inability.

I want to nominate this comment by G2geek because it's a moving and powerful statement about standing together to fight the common enemy. From nanotica’s Religion and Richard Feynman.
From MarcKyle64:
I thought this one by Jamais Vu was an excellent counter to the 'not all christians are like that' argument. From novapsyche’s Five days ago, I wrote a diary about religion
From beninsc:
From Joe Pac's fine diary about a nice Garry Kasparov tweet, reaming Russia comes this comment by f pie, which reams Turkey, too. That’s a good thing, I think.
