So Progressive Jamie McLeod-Skinner defeated “centrist” 7-term incumbent Rep. Kurt Schrader in the Democratic primary for Oregon's 5th Congressional District. Schrader had Biden’s endorsement and huge money, but he got AOCed.
So sad.
I first read this in an AP article, which neglected to say what the final vote was, so I knew it must have been a blowout — the media traditionally blacks out Progressive achievements.
I next checked the NY Times. No percentages.
Washington Post? No percentages.
CNN? No article.
Fox News? No percentages, but at least an article, which I’ll not link to. (And now I need to take a bleach shower.)
I finally found percentages in the Oregon City Patch (!), and as the blackout indicated, it was in fact a blowout — 57% to 43%. I guess that their staff are not as well trained as the national media.
So… a seven-term Establishment incumbent blown out (14%!) by a Progressive. The first time in 42 years that Oregon voters have ousted a sitting member of Congress in a primary election. Apparently, Oregon voters, like Americans in general, want traditional Democratic values; the only way to get those these days is to vote Progressive, and so it is a growing trend.
First they ignored us, then they laughed at us, then they fight us, then we win.
