Rudy gets glad-handed in Staten Island because Andrew Giuliani needs some attention other than his resemblance to Eric Trump and that he could never be the next governor of NY State. Rudy’s trying so hard to be sympathetic as we now see his instrumental role in the J6 insurrection and phony elector plot.
Driving the news: The New York Police Department told Axios in a phone call that a 39-year-old suspect from Staten Island has been arrested and will face a second-degree assault charge following the incident in ShopRite.
What he's saying: All of a sudden, I feel this, 'Bam!' on my back," Giuliani told the New York Post, which obtained footage of the slap on the former Trump lawyer's back.
- "I feel this tremendous pain in my back, and I'm thinking, what the — I didn't even know what it was," he told the Post. "I hear this guy say, 'You're a f--king scumbag,' then he moves away so nobody can grab him," Giuliani added.
- "The one thing he said that was political was 'you're going to kill women, you're going to kill women,'" Giuliani told the NYT, in reference to a comment he made about the Supreme Court's decision overturning Roe v. Wade on Friday that effectively ended federal protections on abortion.
Worth noting: The NYPD's initial account didn't mention abortion, but said a man hit Giuliani in the middle of his back while saying, "What's up, scumbag?'" the NYT notes.

Americans nationwide sighed in relief on Sunday as New York’s former mayor, Rudy Giuliani, narrowly survived being cuffed lightly on the back in a Staten Island ShopRite.
“All of a sudden, I feel this, ‘Bam!’ on my back,” he told the New York Post of the incident, which occurred as Giuliani was stumping for his son, who is vying for the Republican nomination in New York’s gubernatorial race. After causing him “tremendous pain,” the Trump lawyer added, the unidentified 39-year-old man called him a “scumbag.” Feeling it was his civic duty to summon the police, Giuliani advised the Post: “You can’t let the little things go.” Surveillance footage of the horrific incident later emerged, showing the man walking by Giuliani and touching him on the back. Identified as a ShopRite employee by law enforcement sources, the man has been charged with second-degree assault involving a person over 65. Still obviously reeling from the brutal assault, Giuliani then took his experience to The New York Times, telling the paper that he still had “red marks” on his back. “He almost knocked me down,” Giuliani said. “Thank god—for a 78-year-old, I am in pretty good shape.”
