John Fetterman hates the filibuster. Hates it. He's just as adamant about protecting—and, gutting as it is to have to say, restoring—abortion rights. And he knows the two go hand-in-hand.
"The right to an abortion is non-negotiable," Fetterman said recently. "When I'm your next U.S. Senator, I will vote to eliminate the filibuster and protect the right to an abortion."
Damn straight. That's why Daily Kos is proud to endorse Lt. Gov. John Fetterman as he seeks to take back Pennsylvania's open-seat Senate from the GOP—an absolutely critical race if we're to have any chance of electing a majority willing to reform the filibuster and codify Roe v. Wade into law.
Donate $3 now to John Fetterman so that we can eliminate the filibuster and restore Roe.
It goes without saying that Fetterman's Republican opponent, the charlatan TV "doctor" Mehmet Oz, is a full-blown opponent of abortion rights who celebrated the Supreme Court's evisceration of Roe. Pathetically, just a few years ago, Oz spoke out in favor of the right to an abortion, but like any GOP candidate desperate to prove himself to the base, he abandoned those views as soon as he started running for office. To call him untrustworthy would be far too polite.
There are many other reasons Fetterman stands out—not least his 6'9" frame and his eye-catching tattoos memorializing victims of gun violence during his time as mayor of the city of Braddock. His clarity that health care is a human right, his ceaseless advocacy for organized labor, and his determination that we remember the forgotten among us all make him a candidate we'd be lucky to see in the Senate.
But, most importantly, he just gets it. He knows that we have to curtail the filibuster if we want to accomplish anything. "Stop apologizing for the space we take up as a party and ram some stuff through and get it done," Fetterman said in an interview last year. "As a Democrat, I would just hate to be in a position of only being able to accomplish what Mitch McConnell allows us to." We're a hard same.
I don't need to tell you about how difficult this race will be, how Pennsylvania is a perennial battleground with major elections regularly decided by the slimmest of margins, how Republicans will pour everything they have into keeping this seat red and will spew every lie they can dream up. You know all this.
And you know that if we want a Senate where progressive priorities—and not Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema—determine the agenda, we need to send John Fetterman to Washington. I know we're tired of being told that the answer to our problems is to vote harder. But sometimes leadership must come from us, the grassroots. So please, please do what you can to help this campaign today.
Please give $3 to elect a Manchin-and-Sinema-proof Democratic majority in the Senate.
