As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Good morning friends! We have made it to another weekend, and while I am sure all of us have opinions on the SCOTUS decisions of late, I have a different question for all of you. Last week, I asked you about your favorite class, the one that changed your life, the one you would go back and take again if you were allowed. This week, I would like to ask about your favorite book. What book do you go back to time and again? what book taught you that reading was for pleasure, not just because some stuffy teacher dropped it on your desk in third period English?
For me, that book was Alas, Babylon, by Pat Frank. Frank died in 1964, almost 30 years before his book was placed in my hands. In the author’s forward, he says that he wrote the book to answer the question, “What would happen if the Russians dropped the bomb?”
The story he tells, gave me a fascinating glimpse of a past I never knew, as well as a look at a possible future that is both frightening, and hopeful.
So, tell me about your favorites, and why?
