It's been stewing for some three years now and involves a Who's Who list of Mississippians... headlined by Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre and political heavyweights, including the former GOP governor... in the misappropriation of about $24 million intended to help poor people in the nation's poorest state.
Now, the attorney leading the probe has been fired after issuing subpoenas related to $5 million of those funds that were spent on a new volleyball facility at Favre's alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi. That action, obviously, was not well received.

If Mississippi doesn't want the truth, I sure hope the US Department of Justice is interested in how a state can steer money intended for poor people to projects that do absolutely zero for poor people.
