Kari Lake has been in the news because of the dueling Arizona rallies where Trump stumped for her. She is running in the GOP primary for governor there. Pence held a competing rally at the same time supporting Karrin Taylor Robson, a land use strategy consultant (chew on that qualification).
I am inclined to clicks on links in articles that interest me. This is what I found when I clicked on a link, in the worth reading in its own right RAWSTORY article 'We’re just waiting for him to die': Former GOP lawmaker admits party has no plan to derail Trump in 2024” which summarized this choice piece of wordsmithing by Tim Miller in Buklwark in another essay I recommend reading “What’s the Downside for Humoring Him . . . Until He Dies?” and then I clicked on a link in that article in this paragraph:
Over the weekend, Mike Pence, Doug Ducey, Rusty Bowers, and the other Good Republicans™ were campaigning for gubernatorial candidate Karrin Taylor Robson in her upcoming primary against MAGA Drag Queen Kari Lake, who meanwhile was holding a Poconos-standup-act-meets-Confederate-monster-truck-rally with Trump across the state.
“MAGA Drag Queen” I mused, “what the hell does this mean?” Easy peasy, kumquat klicky, here’s the explanation of what this refers to: “Kari Lake and the Fake Drag Panic of 2022.”
Prior to reading this all I knew about Kari Lake (Wikpedia) was that her “qualification” for being a governor was that she’d been a so-called television journalist on local stations. As most of you know she is as all-in for Trump as anyone could be supporting his Big Lie and propping him up like a football players jockstrap.
Kari Lake is probably the only political candidate in history to be called out for hypocrisy by a drag queen who was friends with her, see for example “ 'She's thrown away my friendship': Drag queen calls out Kari Lake for hypocrisy”.
Ironically, Kari Lake could be considered admirable for being openminded for admitting she likes being entertained by drag queens if she only wasn’t an egregious hypocrite.
Here’s an excerpt showing her hypocrisy from the AZ Central article:
"She's picked a side in the culture war, but her actions in the past don't support it," Stevens said in an interview. "Of course my feelings are hurt, but it just proves that she is a hypocrite. ... She's thrown away my friendship with her to get votes from people that would rather hate gays or hate drag queens."
Stevens is one more critic to say Lake is new to such conservative beliefs, accusations that have dogged Lake's year-old campaign and offered opportunity for her opponents to attack. Lake is running a Donald Trump-inspired campaign to replace Republican Gov. Doug Ducey and has used false claims the 2020 election was stolen as a signature talking point.
One GOP opponent blasted her Second Amendment record when Lake only could provide evidence she'd been a member of the National Rifle Association since its anniversary, in 2021. Lake was previously a Democrat, a fact she has embraced along the campaign trail. She has also been criticized for proposing an amnesty plan for millions of migrants, despite now taking a hard-line stance and pledging to deport immigrants using state resources if she is elected.
The bottom line with Trump is that he will endorse anyone no matter how far out on the delusional QAnon fringe they are, or in the case of Lake, no matter how mired in the fever swamps of hypocrisy they may, be as long as they are. All that matters to Trump is that they will be willing to fall over each other trying to outdo the sycophancy of all of his other ass kissers.
Trump never needed an excuse for a rally but now the primaries are giving him a reason to criss-cross the country where he can be the main event for the lead-in acts of those running in state elections. Pence for his part has all but declared his candidacy for president and I can see him chasing Trump around the country holding simultaneous rallies for GOP candidates, any GOP candidate Trump isn’t supporting, knowing these will get more media attention than any rally he holds by himself.
The poll with the exception of Liz Cheney includes the politicians listed here.

Republican candidate for Arizona governor Kari Lake — and her campaign lawyer — are trying to silence a drag queen whose social media posts labeling Lake a hypocrite have gone viral.
Richard Stevens, who performs as Barbra Seville and is one of the Phoenix area's best-known drag queens, received the "cease and desist" letter while headed on stage at a family friendly drag brunch on Saturday.
The three-page letter demands that Stevens stop making certain claims about Lake, whom he once considered a friend, and delete a June 17 post that has turned into a national news story.
It also confirms that, about eight years ago, Lake and her family attended a party where Stevens showed up dressed as Marilyn Monroe. Lake's campaign has said Stevens was an "impersonator," drawing a distinction between that and a drag show.
