For some reason, members of the politically correct left wing in this country have decided that our language requires the term “Latinx” to refer to individuals of hispanic descent or background.
Please understand— that from the linguistic standpoint— this term is an abomination, and does violence to the Spanish language.
The apparent rationale for the use of “Latinx” appears to derive from a desire to make language as gender-neutral as possible. This folly derives from ignorance of gendered languages, such as Spanish, French, German, and Russian, in which nouns are assigned a grammatical gender— typically masculine, feminine, or neuter.
Get over it. Surveys on the internet demonstrate that hispanic people despise the term “Latinx” which they see (correctly) as imposed from without, by individuals who do not understand what it means to speak a gendered language.
For the record, I am not myself of hispanic descent; nonetheless I speak fluent Spanish.
