LGBTQ Literature is a Readers and Book Lovers series dedicated to discussing literature that has made an impact on the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people. From fiction to contemporary nonfiction to history and everything in between, any literature that touches on LGBTQ themes is welcome in this series. LGBTQ Literature posts on the last Sunday of every month at 7:30 PM EST. If you are interested in writing for the series, please send a message to Chrislove.
Good evening, faithful LGBTQ Literature readers.
I don’t feel great about this announcement, but I think it’s necessary. This summer has been busier than most, and it’s not letting up any time soon. I really thought that I would be in a position to publish a review this month (it’s a new book, so required a full reading), but as the date approached, it became increasingly clear that it wasn’t going to happen. I just had family visiting, and it is taking me longer than anticipated to get my shit together, for lack of a better way to put it. I was leaning toward postponing publication for a week (as I’ve occasionally done), but I have a research trip coming up, and I don’t want to lie to myself (or to you) about what is possible. After my trip, I’ll be in back-to-school mode. August is going to be a mess—and I will be, too, I don’t scale back on some of my commitments. I think it would be best to just go into what I’m calling “summer hiatus” for this and next month.
As of now, the plan is to return in September for our regularly scheduled diary. If, for some reason, that plan changes, I will let everybody know. Either way, something will be posted in September.
Thank you for your patience and understanding, and I’m sorry for this major hiccup in our diary schedule. The well has been a little dry this year, both in terms of finding new writers for the series (but major thanks to the other writers that have contributed this year!) and when it comes to the content that I am personally able to put out. With every month that passes, it becomes more difficult, because generating new content requires keeping up with newly published literature. And, while I really do try to stay on top of the field, my job is not one that really allows much time for extra reading.
With that being said, I want to be fully transparent: It is possible that I may need to reassess this series. To be clear, LGBTQ Literature is not going anywhere. However, it may reach a point where a monthly series is no longer sustainable, and I may need to look at other options. I have no big announcement on this right now, and it may end up not being necessary, but I do feel that I owe it to LGBTQ Literature readers to let you know what is going on behind the scenes. Either way, please rest assured that the series will continue, even if schedule changes are made. I am simply not willing to let it die.
As always, we welcome new writers! Please see our upcoming schedule below—we have open dates for the rest of the year. This series has always been at its strongest when diverse writers offer diverse perspectives on LGBTQ Literature. Please reach out to me directly or comment below if you are interested in contributing at some point to this series. Stay tuned for more in September!
