Let’s start with a Monty Python moment from The Meaning of Life. “Every sperm is sacred, every sperm is great! If a sperm is wasted God gets quite irate.” This could be the battle cry of the Republican party. The group that lambasts the hills with calls that life is precious and life is a gift, yet their states have some of the worst social services programs, lowest higher education graduates, worst services to provide reproductive care, and lack of guaranteed maternity/paternity leave. Life is sacred as long as your not actually alive to Republicans, because once your actually separate from the mother you become a burden to society in their eyes.
In an interview with Harvard Law school several years ago, Ruth Bader Ginsberg rightly predicted that the fall of Roe would burden the women in the lower socioeconomic classes the most. Recently an article in Time predicted that those affected by the loss of Roe as….
“Many would-be patients in places where abortion is illegal will likely struggle to take time off work, find transportation, or arrange childcare to get an abortion. Studies show that people who are denied abortions have worse mental health, more physical health issues including pregnancy-related death, higher rates of poverty and debt, and less financial security. Most people who seek abortions already have at least one child. The U.S., which has the highest maternal mortality rate of any wealthy nation, is also unique among its peer nations in failing to provide robust, state-funded childcare, paid family leave, or other parental support.” time.com/...
She was not wrong and this is why the Republicans, who rally against CRT and tout replacement theory, have become the instrument of their own demise.
Even though every woman in the US is now a second class citizen that is considered an imbecile who must be told what to do with her body, her sexual freedom, her uterus, one thing that will never, ever stop is the need for women to actually control their own bodies. SCOTUS and state legislatures might take away the right to abortion, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not going to happen. It will just go underground.
When Prohibition was enacted, decided by 5% of the population who were idiotic Bible bangers and petioned relentlessly that alcohol was the Devil and it must be abolished, alcohol didn’t go away, it popped up in speakeasies and bathtubs all over the country. The Canadian border and the Great Lakes became a bootleggers paradise, hot rod cars that went fast were invented, and oh that’s what gave us Nascar, so thanks for that. Just because you make a law, doesn’t mean people are going to follow it. Losing Roe doesn’t mean abortions will stop, you just won’t know that they’re happening. This also means that they will become less safe and end up harming more women.
So how does this hurt Republicans? Right so go with me here, the women that can get abortions are more likely to have a higher socioeconomic status, basically white women to be blunt or women with means. They can afford to take time off work and travel to get an abortion. Which means those women won’t be having any more kids than they are now, they won’t be adding “white” headcount into the next census, but that is not the case for a lot of women.
Republicans are shouting that white people are being replaced by non-white people, replacement theory (this is of course a bunch of bull pucky), we’ve got to stop it they shout. However, by ending Roe, they are now forcing the exact class of people that they’re trying to eradicate from society to have MORE offspring by making it harder to get contraception, education about contraception, and access to abortion. So in effect, by removing their ability to have abortions, they are adding more children into society in the lower economic classes, which in and of itself is “replacing” white people.
Through Republicans ignorance about how society actually works they are going to cause a surge in the exact class of people that they are trying to ignore. They don’t care about you if you’re alive, they only care about “white” unborn children to keep the “white supremacy” alive in our political arena. However, ending Roe has done the exact opposite. I, for one, look forward to a more “brown” society, because we may actually start to understand and like one another if we’re all the same color.
I’m not going to stop laughing at the Republicans that condemned Roe to the ashes though, their ignorance, racism, and condemnation of those not them has brought their own demise to their doorstep. Didn’t think that one through very much did ya old white and mostly male Republicans?
