You most likely know the worrisome news already — probably better than I do. The story of my life is in the niggling details.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

In the late 1800s, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was the place to go for a divorce.
London’s killer fog of 1952.
West Sacramento, among other places, is using goats to help control wildfire risks. Have been for years, it seems.
Camelina, an oilseed crop now commonly grown only in Ukraine has a longer and more varied history than researchers have thought.
Something from the BBC about favorite colors. It’s interesting.

Research on remains and grave goods from the oldest graves found in the Netherlands sheds some new light on traditional roles.
Musk bid to buy Twitter withdrawn. Anybody surprised?
These are the cheapest Michelin starred restaurants in the world. They still charge over $100 a pop.
A Byzantine era farming estate and a rural mosque about 100 years younger found in a dig near Rahat.
A picture of the space station. Taken last month. Still gorgeous.
Early stone tools were not rocket science. A study using people mostly ignorant of archaeology using materials provided to get a tied-shut box open showed that many of them could re-invent the wheel, so to speak.

I have tried my new hiking poles, and figured out the instructions on how to adjust them. I believe I need an inch longer than they are right now.
Last Tuesday, I was supposed to get three packages — I got two. The third, containing more pairs of my favorite slacks that I bought last month, spent the day riding around Seattle. FedEx finally figured out that they were trying to deliver it in the wrong city, so they got it here two days late. Part of what I ordered is actually on backorder — I do hope the second package doesn’t get a ride around Seattle before it gets here.
The apartment complex I live in was scheduled to have the smoke alarm inspection last Tuesday and Wednesday. Incentive to clean, certainly. The inspection at my place and my daughter’s happened on Wednesday, and one of my two alarms beeped about every 30 seconds for several hours. The manager came eventually and ended up taking it down because nothing she knew to try got it to stop, either. The repair crews are working on more urgent problems. I may end up getting a new smoke alarm — I think the one that wouldn’t stop beeping was here when I moved in.
I was running low on postage stamps, and somewhere I heard the price is going up again. I remember writing a letter to my grandmother when first class postage was 4¢. I won’t be running low again any time soon.
On Thursday, I got four packages — the pants that went walkabout in Seattle on Tuesday and three other orders.
On Friday, I got two other packages. The cookies are seriously overpriced — I won’t be buying them again, but I did want to try them. Also, I got a new smoke alarm.
On Saturday, I got the news that the pants on backorder had arrived. I do hope delivery in Seattle isn’t attempted this time.
I haven’t been checking the main Multnomah County Library website much recently; but I put holds on some actual books this past week and found that the Central Library will be closed for remodeling for three months, starting August 1. Fortunately, it looks like all four items I put holds on will arrive in good time — three are already there and one’s on its way.
23andMe keeps sending me emails about new things they’ve discovered in my genetic profile. I’m a morning person. Who knew?
