THE DURAND HAUNTING
Rochester's most famous
"The origins of the stories that surround the hauntings of "The White Lady" in this Rochester, NY park are open for interpretation. But what is real...is that for decades, a White Lady has been spotted along the roadways of this park near Lake Ontario. Rumors in these parts suggest that even the local law enforcement have seen things that they cannot explain. Is it a daughter that never returned? Or a widow waiting for her husband's ship to arrive? The stories told for decades."

Rochester Subway highlighted a few of the different stories and noted the most popular details. In most versions, a woman lived in a castle and had a daughter that was either abducted or ran away. The woman is rumored to have never found her daughter and thrown herself off a cliff into Lake Ontario in despair. reporter.rit.edu/…

Mt Hope Cemetery
Many of those living nearby claim to have seen spirits and flickering lights in Mt. Hope. In 2000, the skull of Gen. Elisha G. Marshall, a civil war general known as "Evil Genius," was stolen. The more disturbing piece of this story, as reported by the Chicago Tribune, is that the general's grave was robbed, her bones were taken and scattered around the cemetery, and evidence of a satanic ritual was found at the burial site. Pistilli noted that while Mt. Hope has been investigated by paranormal groupsreporter.rit.edu

Rochester NY History
The Fox sisters were three
sisters from Rochester, New York who played an important role in the creation of Spiritualism: Leah (April 8, 1813 – November 1, 1890), Margaretta (also called Maggie), (October 7, 1833 – March 8, 1893) and Catherine Fox (also called Kate) (March 27, 1837 – July 2, 1892).[1] The two younger sisters used "rappings" to convince their older sister and others that they were communicating with spirits. Their older sister then took charge of them and managed their careers for some time. They all enjoyed success as mediums for many years en.m.wikipedia.org
.
Spiritualism first appeared in the 1840s in the "Burned-over District" of upstate New York, where earlier religious movements such as Millerism and Mormonism had emerged during the Second Great Awakening, although Millerism and Mormonism did not associate themselves with Spiritualism.
This region of New York State was an environment in which many thought direct communication with God or angels was possible

The Brickyard Trail
runs the length of Sandra L. Frankel Nature Park, a 72-acre linear park connecting the Brighton Town Hall and Library on Elmwood Ave with Buckland Park on Westfall Road.
In the 1850’s a six mile section of Monroe Avenue was established as a Plank Road, financed mainly by the Brick Company owners. At the height of production (~1900), there were in excess of 200 men working at the yard know as “Rochester Brick & Tile Company”google.com
(My recent personal experience-make of it what you will):
"The Parachute "
Brighton NY Brickyard Trail/Brighton Library area:
August 8th.
I was walking around in the neighbor
hood about 11pm or after.
I was on the sidewalk. I suddenly saw a big, billowing thing far up the street, on the same side. White, like a parachute or something, big, going up like in a breeze.
There wasn't a wind so it made no sense (it was at the end of the street by some houses and a field and trees)
Then I thought-
it was someone garbage-picking a parachute?
because I thought I saw a silhouette. Then it was gone...
I kept walking towards it thinking I must have been mistaken, maybe it was a big white garbage bag blowing around or something. Then I saw a big white dog
( I thought.)
Then this weird seeming woman was bending over. I thought she was maybe garbage picking a parachute or something for whatever reason!
So then I thought-
was she maybe poop-scooping the big white dog?Maybe with a huge white garbage bag or something?
Then she literally fell down,
and started rolling around, making a whining sound.
She was wearing a long skirt,
I believe...
I had started now thinking she might possibly be mentally ill, of course.
I couldn't see the dog now or any white thing.
(I was thinking of going a different way, by this point- but I just kept going, wondering if she was OK,
just in case.I had though it could be a seizure.....)
I had now crossed the street,to the opposite side...because it was so very weird, but we still weren't that close. I'm on a cane-
so I'm extra careful at night walking around-
so I didn't really necessarily
want to go too near her,
it was too bizarre, honestly.
I couldn't see what I'd seen billowing in the wind anywhere- It was so big, but it wasn't around any place I could see, either.
Then she seemed to have gotten up, and I think if there was a dog, it was walking too,but it was like they kept disappearing....I couldn't see them.
I started wondering if I was having eye problems.
Then her silhouette was visible because of a street light in front of her, further down.
It was like she was jerking all over as she walked. She was muttering or something.
I wondered if she had
Parkinsons then, maybe.
I couldn't even see a dog anymore. I couldn't see any white thing.…
I kept getting closer and then- no one was there. No dog, no lady. I was looking for the "parachute " or anything I could mistake for it. Nothing.
And I couldn't find them again, either. I'm not even sure now if there even was a dog.
But they (or she) didn't go in a house because they(?)
I think, were still walking on the sidewalk somewhere.
I walked all the way down there and looked around and- nothing. So that was truly weird....
(There's probably a rational explanation- but I really just keep trying to figure out where the damn parachute went!)
