On Thursday night, I think it was, President Biden gave an impassioned speech in which he addressed the elephant in the room. MAGA, under the spell of Donald Trump, is destroying America. President Biden did not address Trump’s current cloud of alleged espionage, but it was there, lurking in the shadows.
I submit there is a lot more to be known about Trump’s alleged espionage. There are a lot of moving pieces. The stolen documents. The “coincidental” outing of the female Russian intelligence agent who frequented Mar A Lago. The search of the apartment of one of Putin’s cronies. Stay tuned, because I’ll bet there is more to come.
In my simple mind it all adds up to one conclusion: Trump is as dirty as hell, and has been selling our secrets for God knows how long. Whether Trump is an agent of a foreign intelligence service is, for me, a technicality at this point — who cares what his status is if he and Jared were shopping US secrets to the Russians, the Saudis, and hell, maybe even Costa Rica if they could come up with enough money?
That brings me to my main point. President Biden took the unprecedented step for a credible President (thus leaving out Trump’s blathering when he was President) of openly and directly criticizing his predecessor. I think it was justified, and well due. But where are the others? If all the former living Presidents spoke out about Trump and what damage he is doing to the country, it would be very powerful.
The main one who could bring influence to save the nation is George W. Bush, the only Republican in the mix. God knows Trump didn’t hesitate to criticize the Bushes. Why the hell won’t George W. speak out about Trump? What would W lose if he did? On the other hand, how much credibility could he gain as a patriot if he did?
