I am devastated.
Michael Flatley has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, has undergone surgery and is under the care of doctors. No other information on his condition has been released at this time.
I simply cannot imagine this world without the presence of this brilliant and talented man, who brought Irish dance into the modern era with “Riverdance” in 1995.
I was fortunate enough to be able to see “Riverdance” when it came to Atlanta in early 1998. By then he and Jean Butler, who were its original co-choreographers and principal dancers had left the show, with him creating and launching the wildly successful “Lord of the Dance”, followed by “Feet of Flames” and “Celtic Tiger”. He and Butler had been replaced in “Riverdance” by Collin Dunne and Eileen Martin when I saw it, but had made history, nevertheless. Twenty eight years later, “Riverdance” is still performing around the world.
Please keep his wife Niamh, their son Michael. his sisters and brothers in your prayers.
