Here is something the Democrats can use against Republicans almost right away. It's called the debt ceiling, which needs to be raised within the next few weeks or we default on our debt. McCarthy and Company want to hold a lot of things hostage, including Social Security and Medicare, and say they won't raise the debt ceiling until the government cowtows to their demands. Biden has already stated he won't negotiate, so it looks like a government shutdown, right? Maybe wrong.. From the 14th Amendment Section 4:
"The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned."
Since the budget itself was authorized by law just before Republicans took over the House, the United States has more debt. This cannot be questioned. The government has purchased goods and services, and now it's time to pay for those goods and services. According to the Constitution, we must pay what we owe, whether or not Congress agrees with it. Again, this is embedded in the Constitution of the United States of America. There are several ways for the Biden Administration to approach Republicans refusal to "pay the bills".
1 - First of all, a lawsuit should be immediately filed, stating that not paying our debts is a violation of the law.
2 - Democrats need to go on TV and press home the point that we have already purchased goods and services on credit, and payments on credit are now due. Whoever has credit cards already knows that, if payments are missed, the interest rate on those cards is increased. The penalty for the US missing payments is a lowering of it's bond rating, which would translate immediately into an approximate 2% increase in US debt. And this would all be the fault of the Republican House. Keep pushing home the point that Republicans are in the process of making America a deadbeat nation. And that's when the Biden Administration should take some actions of it's own to “Save the day”, and come out looking like a hero.
3 - The last time we almost defaulted on the debt, Obama was president, and he flirted with the idea of an executive order, minting a trillion dollar platinum coin to make payments on the debt. This is something that Congress has no control over. Let's do it.
4 - Push that lawsuit hard, stating that, since Congressional Republicans have violated the law, and a crisis now exists because of the lawbreaking, the lawsuit needs to be fast tracked to the Supreme Court.
5 - If the Supreme Court sides with the Republicans, then the court has abetted Republicans in breaking the law (the 14th Amendment), and Democrats should then say that expanding a lawless Supreme Court is the only remedy to correct that lawlessness. Democrats should make it part of the 2024 platform that SCOTUS has broken the law, and that expanding the court, setting age limits for the court, narrowing the scope of cases that the Supreme Court can decide on, and other "nuclear" measures are now in order. Yes, this will be the perfect reason, as well as the perfect time, to go "nuclear" on SCOTUS. The courts need to be made legal again.
What Republicans have been doing to America and it's citizens is scorched earth, and it's time we took off the gloves and used their own tactics against them. When they go low, we go high? Where the hell has that gotten us?. I say when they go low, we kick them as hard as we can, right in the cahonas, and keep kicking them when they are down until they unconditionally surrender. This is not only about taking back the House, but also clipping the wings of a Supreme Court that is comprised of vultures in the process. We all know what's at stake. It's been repeated over and over again, ad infinitum. It’s time to act. The GOP has always wanted "culture war". Let's give them one that they will never forget.
