Morning Y’all, and welcome to another downheah edition of Saturday Morning Garden Blogging. As I may have mentioned here before, I have two seasons: Bama Football season and Tomato & Pepper season. Bama didn’t make the Championship Playoff, but it was a good season at 11-2. Time to focus on the garden...
I’ve finally got my grow lists finalized; the tomato lineup this year:
1-Big Beef (F1)
2-Chef's Choice Pink (F6)
3-Ukranian Purple
4-Chef's Choice Pink (F1)-seedlings for my neighbors...
5-Stump of the World (ditto)
6-County Agent
7-Sully F3 "Volunteer"
8-Sully Dwarf #3 (F3)
**See Here & Here for more info on the Sully variety….
Over on the pepper side, the list looks like this:
1-Prairie Spice
2-Jalapeno
3-Hinkelhatz
4-Fatalii
5-Shishito (for a good friend who couldn't start seeds to save his life...)
6-Rooster Spur
7-Habanero (mainly for fresh seeds...)
8-Georgia Flame (for the Wife's salsa...)
9-Biggie Chile Hybrid (ditto)
10-La Rouge Royale (for the Heaviest Pepper Contest @ Doc’s)
11-Bill's Striped
I have decided to attempt my own intentional pepper cross this year. The two varieties have yet to be determined, although I’m leaning towards Bill’s Striped X Hinkelhatz. I’ve never attempted an intentional cross before, and I’ve been advised that it’s not just as simple as this YouTube video makes it out to be. More on this project as it progresses….
I’ve decided to start my pepper seeds on 2/11, and tomato seeds a week later. Our last frost date is nominally April 1st, but I’m looking at a plant out date towards the end of April. Lots of work to be done before then!! What’s going on with your garden planning?
