I think this got lost with all the news lately:
MAGA lawmaker in Georgia gets put in timeout for targeting Willis
Georgia Senate Republicans have suspended Colton Moore — who has tried to impeach Fulton County DA Fani Willis for prosecuting Trump — from their caucus.
And you have to ask, “How the hell did that happen?”
When Georgia Republicans are fed up with your pro-Trump obsequiousness, it’s a sure sign you’re too extreme for your own good.
Such is life for Georgia state Sen. Colton Moore, who has been suspended indefinitely by the Georgia Senate’s Republican caucus for allegedly breaking caucus rules during his incessant push to impeach Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis after she brought racketeering charges against former President Donald Trump.
In a news release, Georgia Senate Republicans said:
Despite the fact that 32 of 33 Republican State Senators, the Governor, Lt. Governor, Speaker of the House, and the Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party agree that a Special Session to take action against the Fulton County District Attorney is impossible, Senator Moore has a right to his opinion. However, during his advocacy for his ill-conceived proposal, Senator Moore has knowingly misled people across Georgia and our nation, causing unnecessary tension and hostility, while putting his Caucus colleagues and their families at risk of personal harm.
The statement makes clear that Moore won’t be prevented from representing his constituents, but he also won’t be allowed to participate in the caucus “until he agrees to abide by the Rules which he voted for at the beginning of his term.”
Now, what all did Moore do? According to his colleagues, Moore started to target his fellow Republicans as RINOs when they didn’t push for special session to kill Willis’s prosecution of Trump. And Moore spent time screaming that none of his fellow Republicans would sign his letter calling for a special session. Turns out that Moore NEVER sent out that letter for reading let alone for signatures. And it pissed of Moore’s fellow Republicans.
This lead to allegations that Moore is using this a political stunt for campaign fund raising. And it only got worse. Moore claimed that if Republicans didn’t kill Willis’s prosecution that we would be in a “civil war.”
I told one senator ... we’ve got to put our heads together and figure this out. We need to be taking action right now. Because if we don’t, our constituencies are going to be fighting it in the streets. Do you want a civil war? I don’t want a civil war. I don’t want to have to draw my rifle. I want to make this problem go away with my legislative means of doing so.
Imagine a MAGA madman calling for political violence. How novel! Oh wait. It’s beginning to be a new “norm,” according to the mainstream media.
Now, other articles on this story have pointed out that Moore is from northwest Georgia. And I got curious because I have heard about northwest Georgia being a really gerrymandered area filed with some of the worst Republicans. And low and behold, Moore’s senate district is essentially the same as Marjorie Taylor’s Greene’s House district!
Moore’s State Senate District
MTG’s House District
Must be something in the water.
Anyway, it appears — for now — that Georgia Republicans do not want to actually mess with Willis’s prosecution. They passed that law that gives the state the power to remove elected prosecutors, but Georgia Republicans appear to be letting this all play out. But you never can tell with the Georgia Republicans. Governor Kemp is going to vote for Trump, and if there is a real threat to Trump, I could easily imagine GA Republicans coming to Trump’s aid.
But for now, the judicial beat goes on.
