He’s running for dictator.Not president.
I’m sure that seems ridiculously obvious, but for me that clarity is important
The people supporting him in the polls aren’t looking for a president. Not really. Whether they understand that or not. The Republicans in the Congress aren’t looking for a president either. Whether they actually know that or not. Many of them are nihilists that don’t hold to the traditional idea of government. Or they’re simply going along for some kind of power. At any rate, they’ve made their interests and intentions clear enough. Democracy is not a priority. Framing this “presidential” contest as president vs dictator clarifies a whole lot of irreconcilable notions and expectations for a presidential election. Debates, platforms, polling. We don’t expect any norms or rule following from him, so it follows that the whole campaign season, so to speak, cannot fit into any kind of “normal” mold.
So much of the conversation in recent days has been about his plans, his language and how the US won’t be recognizable if he is re-elected and about what another “term” would look like, as if that’s a thing. It’s time to move on in the way we talk about him and just say it plainly. He’s running for dictator.
Mr Biden is running for president.
If one is looking to elect a president the desired attributes aren’t those wanted in a strong man/autocrat/dictator. It’s not an apples to apples, or the proverbial apples to oranges comparison. It’s more like apples to an hydraulic compactor. How is this race to be measured since President isn’t the office he’s running for? Will the media understand that?
Will the voters understand that?
He’s running for dictator, not President.
