This year, I had the pleasure of having not one, not two, not three but 4 different Thanksgiving meals. To say this was a lot of food, would be a vast understatement, There were a bunch of leftovers some of which are still in the refrigerator today. A surprise delivery of boxed Thanksgiving meals showed as well. All we will be covered.
I started off with attending two different Thanksgiving themed dinners at Beginnings, a restaurant I have covered earlier. Theme dinners there are paired with various alcoholic drinks. 5 courses and 5 drinks. Pictures appear below.
The first, on Tuesday night, was Friends themed. This feature somewhat traditional Thanksgiving items. Food was excellent and much was brought home for leftovers. Sad to say, the tomato soup course didn’t contain any Funyons unless they quickly dissolved into the hot soup. The first two pics are the menu followed by some food shots:
Weds night’s theme was The Great Gatsby. The food on this night seemed to have little to do with Thanksgiving and more to do with a 1920s New Year’s Eve party. Still, it was terrific as usual. Because the dishes were lighter overall, we ended up only taking home the burgers. Again menu pics precede the food photos:
Typically, these theme nights feature more beer/ales, vodka, and rum drinks. These two nights, however, were whiskey, bourbon and wine based drinks which is much more in line with my alcohol preferences.
On Weds, we got a surprise when my sister’s boyfriend dropped off a few boxed Thanksgiving meals that had not been used for a Kiwanis event. These were very traditional meals with turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, carrots and cranberry sauce. They were supposed to be delivered to various hospitals and veterans organizations but I guess too many were made, and we ended up with 6 of them. I sampled one of them on Sunday, and they tasted pretty good reheated.
Thursday, we went to a buffet out in Ronkonkoma at a restaurant overlooking Lake Ronkonkoma. The food was excellent and much better than a buffet we went to previously in another year we didn’t want to cook. I thought I left enough room for dessert, but I overdid it taking one of almost every dessert. The hour long ride home found me moaning quite a bit as my tummy wasn’t feeling so great. Obviously being a buffet, we did not bring home any leftovers.
Finally, Saturday found me having a small Friendsgiving potluck dinner. Everyone brought something. One person brought chicken franchese and penne with oil and garlic and broccoli. Another brought brought mashed potatoes and gravy. Someone else brought cornbread muffins. One person brought a homemade chocolate cream pie. I made my famous cranberry sauce, and my sister roasted green beans and butter nuts squash. Everything was very good and most of the leftovers ended up in my fridge. I have been snacking on various items over the last 3 days and will continue to do so.
Following the meal, we played Match Game. I spent about week watching the 70s version of the tv show writing down numerous “questions” from the show I felt would be good for the group. Yes, I did use a few of the more risque questions because they can be the most fun. I did not use any of the dated questions as they only make sense to people who had watched the show and know who the celebrities mentioned in them though I tended to like those questions the most. Of course, I included some Dumb Dora/Donald, Old Man Periwinkle, Horrible Harry and Unlucky Louie questions because how could I not? We had such a blast playing everyone decided we should include playing it again at my birthday party this summer. That means I will be spending even more time watching the show on YouTube writing down more questions. Thank goodness I do love it. (Weirdly, Google did not help me find much in the way of questions roaming around the internet.)
It was a fun week of eating way too much food. Now it’s back to work getting that weight off. LOL
