The GOP gambled on the idea that people would forget all about the Supreme Court Dobb’s decision, and outrage would fade just in time for important elections.
Boy, were they wrong!
Oh yeah—about that…
In Mississippi, the fix was in
When I heard Elvis's second cousin, Brandon Presley, lost to scandal-ridden scumbucket Tate Reeves, a 20-year incumbent, I was like, “Gerrymandered!”
I was more than a little bit right.
Brandon Presley may have been stiffed!
According to Ashton Pittman, news editor of the Mississippi Free Press:
At least 9 precincts in Hinds County—Mississippi's most populous county and the home of the 83%-Black capital city of Jackson—have run out of ballots in the statewide election.
…And that is not all, folks! Something else didn’t quite pass the smell test:
In Hinds County, the most populous county in Mississippi, which the U.S. Census Bureau records are 73.5 percent Black and traditionally votes Democratic, there were widespread reports of polling stations running out of ballots amid high turnout, resulting in some residents waiting several hours to cast their votes.
According to NBC News, reeves had won 52 percent of the vote, to Presley's 46.6 percent, with 86 percent of the vote counted.
Here is a partial list of Hinds County precincts that ran out of ballots:
-
Pineview Baptist Church
-
Clinton Wildwood Baptist Church
-
Clinton Northside Baptist Church
-
Clinton Pine Haven Baptist Church
-
Clinton Clinton YMCA St. Thomas
-
Bolton
Footage of a long line of voters waiting in the dark outside Wildwood Baptist Church was posted on X by Brendan Hall from broadcaster WLBT, were it received more than 1.2 million views. He commented: "The line at Wildwood Baptist Church in Clinton currently. Some voters who just cast their ballot had waited for 2 and a half hours. I'm told this polling location has run out of ballots at least 5 times and have been restocked w/ less than 100 ballots every couple hours."
A special shoutout to Janet (CO-West Slope) for giving me a heads-up on this story as it developed.
E’erbody, this is what voter suppression looks like—there needs to be a push to ensure Black districts have the materials they need to vote ahead of the 2024 elections, especially in the Southern States!
We can’t have a full-fledged, functioning democracy when there are groups denied the basic, fundamental right to vote. Besides, the more people willing to protect abortion rights, the better!
Speaking of…
Be afraid. Be very Afraid!
Overpaid talking bobblehead Sean Hannity claims Democrats are trying to, I quote,
”scare women on abortion.” Guess what, Hannibear—Republicans are doing a pretty fine job of that all by themselves.
For instance, Missouri Health Director Dr. Randall Williams tracked our lady days via spreadsheet to… I dunno… dash to Costco to grab some pads with wings when we collectively ran out?
According to some, it was a-okay that some rando dude had more information about my period’s cycles than my husband. Hell, he’d likely know when the Shrieking Red Curse was about to descend before I would.
I discuss the WTF aspect in my video below (7 minutes).
During the weird exchange I mentioned in the above video, it kept hitting me over and over again that I was arguing with people who think it is fine and dandy that some dude in a corner office had a spreadsheet of women’s periods laid out across his desk.
Seriously. Seriously.
Giving the benefit of the doubt, even if it wasn’t to track who had abortions for nefarious purposes, that was just creepy AF!
Anyone who doesn’t see the potential for abuse here is blind.
Thankfully, some did, and Randall Williams is no longer Missouri’s Health Director, as per candidate Lucas Kunce (D), who is running against rebel fist-tossing Josh Hawley in MO.
Scrub to the 9-minute mark to hear Kunce discuss the issue.
Who knows what further lengths conservatives would go to investigate a woman who had an abortion? Facebook has already given privileged information to investigators in states with severely restricted access.
Legally.
Hannity says women are scared. Maybe we are.
And we vote.
Be afraid, Hannity. Be very afraid!
Blue Wave 2024!
Scrub to 7:50 minute mark to see Hannity trashes his own soul
