Update-TL:DR:
I’m out of the hospital. I got out last Wednesday. I slept all day Thursday, taught on Friday, and slept all weekend.
* * *
Backstory: I was in the hospital due to fluid-filled lungs and cardiac edema. I was coughing so hard I could not sleep and was getting steadily weaker. After several days in the hospital under observation, treatment, and multiple tests, I was released
I went back to teaching on Friday, although I probably should not have, since I’d lost so much time off work, and combined with the nonworking weeks of Thanksgiving and the upcoming winter breaks, I needed to go back to work for my critters and I to continue to live indoors. I had a kindergarten class on Friday and I was constantly coughing. At one point when IU had to repeat loudly my instructions again and again to the wee ones, my voice collapsed and I fell into a coughing fit for a couple of minutes while the kiddos asked “What’s wrong Mister Green”.
I spent Saturday and Sunday mostly sleeping. I had hoped to get some housework done, but I was so exhausted and coughing that I did almost nothing beyond sleeping.
This is the last week of school this year. Then a three-week break of nonworking. Today I will have two first grade classes, one in the am and the other in the pm. I feel better, but still coughing and weak, though not as bad.
Some have asked why I’m working when I should be at home recovering. Simple, I don’t have that option. I live alone and if I do not work, I do not get paid, and if I don’t get paid, I can’t keep up the lining expenses to stay living indoors with me and my critters. Therefore I have to push myself when I feel like I can barely stand to go work.
Today I’m feeling better. I’m not as weak, but still not strong. I am still coughing, but not as hard as before.
Next week I can sleep.
