The Seattle Times just published an on-line article that Tesla is “recalling” more than 2 million vehicles “to fix a system that’s supposed to ensure that drivers are paying attention when they use Autopilot”.
The article may be paywalled so here's an alternate link to NBC News.
The recall includes the 2012-2023 Model S, 2016-2023 Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3 and 2020-2023 Model Y equipped with Autosteer, a feature Tesla describes as “traffic-aware cruise control.” — NBC News
I put quotes around recall, since the upgrade is a set of software patches that will be applied over the air (and hopefully NOT while the car’s Autosteer is actually engaged. (Shades of MIcrosoft Windows!) The upgrade was supposed to begin rolling out yesterday.
This is apparently connected to a two year NTSB investigation looking into crashes that resulted from “inadvertent disengagement” of the Autosteer feature.
So keep those hands on the wheel folks!
