It’s an unfortunate fact of life that Trump is bad and that he also might win the election. One reason is that there are a lot of “cross pressured” voters, who have a Trumpy vibe but come from communities that traditionally vote for Democrats.
I think people who write diaries like the one I linked above could benefit from an away day with this guy, who explains why he helped Geert Wilders win a thumping victory in Holland:
Across the street, Hasan Jakh, a recently arrived immigrant from Turkey, confessed he had voted for Wilders, driven by his frustration over the lack of affordable housing. “It’s stupid that he’s so Islamophobic,” he said. “But for the rest, he’s great.”
Much like with Islamic immigrants voting for Wilders, lots of people vote from Trump knowing that he’ s a racist and sexist, but liking the overall vibe anyway. The approach to reaching them would probably be Clintonian triangulation or even straight up Keith squeezing. Hectoring definitely won't do it.
