Two political media events on the horizon–-Senate hearings on Harlan Crow and Leonard Leo, along with the Trump insurrection trial in March–-are eagerly awaited for by liberal political junkies, not only for their inherent justice but for their highly prized ability to pierce the information bubble of low-attention voters.
To the eternal dismay of liberals fully a third of eligible Americans don’t vote at all and another third are in the fanatically loyal Republican tribe, which means in close elections the gullible, credulous, non-informed “swing voter” somehow has to be reached and convinced to vote for Democrats.
A Senate hearing showcasing obscenely rich, supremely arrogant obnoxious oligarchs buying off Supreme Court justices and Trump on trial are high-attention media events, yes, but just as importantly also escape the pathetic American journalism paradigm of “both sides,” there isn’t a way to script or obfuscate the real news or event to help Republicans or the conservative cause.
A criminal trial of course lays out a scripted case in a dramatic fashion that a one-time news event cannot match, nothing like repetition to get something to sink in, but I’ve noticed in all the frenetic warnings about a possible second Trump term and the frantic liberal search for something to stop him a total absence of speculation of a small detail to a Trump trial: ultimate conviction. Why is that?
Of course no one likes to project or speculate on the future on a dubious or seriously unlikely outcome, why guess or wonder about something that won’t happen? Naturally under any circumstances conviction by jury is difficult, yet we all know Trump is dumb as rocks and already lost his fraud trial, he’s guilty as the sun rises on all 91 felony counts, it’s totally within the realm of possibility Trump will be convicted of multiple felonies in just one trial by May 2024.
Another reason a possible Trump conviction sinks into a black speculation hole is the aura of judicial restraint enveloping Trump. Again to the searing dismay of liberals the judicial branch just will not stop Trump even when precise crimes are plainly adjudicated, we see it the Colorado insurrection case where the judge simply refused to enforce the 14th amendment, and also with Judge Chutkan in DC, she will never jail Trump for gag order contempt no matter what he does.
A judge will rightly see enforcing the 14th amendment or jailing Trump for contempt as completely smashing any chance for a 2024 Trump win, they feel that’s a power the voters should have and will not enforce the law.
An American judge overseeing a criminal jury trial will be bound by no such constraints, the judgment of a 12 person jury is considered sacrosanct in the American justice system, if a jury votes to convict in May or June Trump really will be cuffed, draped in orange and jailed. The Secret Service will have by then got the memo to go home, they don’t protect convicted felons in prison, no.
The final reason this rarely gets talked about is how surreal and without precedent it all is. No political soul thinks the fanatic Republican base will not nominate Trump no matter how many felonies he’s charged with, it really be an American political reality–really truly–that a Republican nominee for President of the United States of America will be running for President while on criminal trial!
To really step into a nightmare of unreality that nominee could be convicted of multiple felonies, it’s totally plausible, what on earth will happen then? What will happen to the country to have such a thing happen to us?
Well, the Republicans will discover there is no do-over for their nomination convention, they either keep Trump for 2024–to run while sitting in prison!--or somehow get rid of him and have the vice-presidential nominee take over. Either way they have to lose that crazy surreal 2024 clown show, there’s no way Trump wins in prison and whoever the pathetic vice-president nominee won’t win either. The Republican tribe will give him or her decent showing, but not nearly enough, no way.
Blessed be to all the stars in the universe there will be no both sides of a Trump criminal conviction, no way to trigger the liberals with those handcuffs, no But Her Emails meme to somehow counter it all. The American journalism corps enabled Trump, still does, but they can’t in a crazy, surreal world of a Trump criminal conviction.
