Hi everybody. It feels like December is speeding by, doesn’t it? Hanukkah has begun and other holidays will swiftly follow. I am not churched, myself, and only celebrate the return of longer days after the solstice. I do like pretty lights, though! The dark of winter does call for pretty lights.
This year, it has come to my attention that Portland has an annual Krampuslauf or parade of the wicked alternative to Santa. It is this Sunday at 4pm at Sewall Crest Park — details here. if you are inor near Portland and would like to meet up there, drop me a Kos mail! From The Oregonian: How Portland’s Krampus parade celebrates the naughty side of Christmas Lots of pictures of the costumes there! (I’m imagining what Photos With Krampus is like — how very, very Portland.)
Ona more serious note, whether or not you celebrate, please remember this time of year can be particularly hard for some. I can relate because I have been one of them. I had a really hard time at Christmas for years after my parents died so I get it. Please spare a thought for those who feel grief or separation in the winter holidays — it isn’t necessarily fun for everybody. And for many, winter is just plain depressing.
With that said, how about a few of WIRED’s Tech Supports to start off the weekend?
