Top Senate Candidates in California oppose Feinstein’s conservative stance on Filibuster reform.

The unanimous shift from California Senator Diane Feinstein’s support for the Senate’s archaic silent filibuster rule by Senate top candidates Adam Schiff, Katie Porter, and Barbara Lee is extremely welcome.

“The filibuster is a Jim Crow relic that must be abolished.” says Barbara Lee. Feinstein has been a long supporter of the Filibuster despite its use to block debate on popular bipartisan legislation that a majority of the American people support. As we all know, the GOP changes filibuster rules when it suits their needs. Passing legislation is not a priority, but packing the Supreme Court was, so they changed the rules to add Justices with a simple majority vote ignoring the 2/3 majority standard that had been used for all previous Supreme Court appointments.

Although the current candidates for Senate call for abolishing the filibuster, there are calls for reforming the filibuster to require germane debate on the proposed legislation instead of silent opposition.

I’m looking forward to more progressive thinking from the candidates for California’s next Senator. Let’s amend the constitution!
