Another belated The Tuesday Diversion...
A long, long time ago, Markos and friends started SBNation, which was a pioneering network of sports blogs. It grew to be very big, and was sold, at least once, until at some point was owned by the behemoth Vox Media. Vox Media, and SBNation and other Vox properties, continued to grow. But in the past few years, the online media revenue model changed. Vox Media had become too big to be successful. So recently they decided to downsize or eliminate a number of their properties. SBNation was one of those to be downsized.
In particular, and of most interest to me, they decided to get rid of most of their NHL hockey sites. It is unclear what criteria was used to decide which of those sites were to be kept and which to be eliminated. Oddly, engagement was obviously not considered, since the site with which I was most heavily involved was heavily trafficked but was still marked for elimination and many others with way less traffic were allowed to remain.
So my questions are:
- have you been affected by the Vox Media downsizing
- if so, which of their properties affect you most
- if an SBNation property downsizing has affected you, which of their sites have
Thank you
