Just a diary to add my support for Markos and Daily Kos, joining teacherken, Denise Oliver Velez, Just Some Socialist and likely some other diaries I didn’t see.
I stumbled across Daily Kos almost 20 years ago, at a time when I was searching US media to find any Americans who didn’t support the Bush Administration’s crazy, pell-mell rush to war against Iraq.
Over the years, my involvement with the site has ebbed and flowed — I haven’t posted many diaries or comments, but I support what Markos has created with this site. In particular, his recent coverage of the Ukraine War has been outstanding, both his own writings and the coverage from others.
I thought about adding some trite advice to this diary about everybody getting along and weathering the storm etc etc. But all I can really note is this: in my work, I have been involved in labour actions of all kinds — over the years, I have been on both sides of strikes, negotiations, and so forth, some very longstanding, intractable and bitter, others more business-like and quickly resolved. The emotions of anger, outrage and persecution can run very high on both sides too, when people’s jobs are at stake. Sometimes these emotions are justified, sometimes not.
If each side can act in good faith, and can bring itself to regard the other side as acting in good faith also, it helps.
