Welcome to what is the 1198th original profile here at “Fanatical Republican Extremist of the Day”, where we’ll be discussing Greg Lopez, who was a 2016 candidate for U.S. Senate from Colorado, as well as a 2018 and 2022 candidate for Governor for Colorado with a history of legal problems, including being the subject of a 1993 domestic violence complaint where he allegedly assaulted his pregnant wife, getting a DUI in 2003, and various allegations that he abused his influence while a federal government employee.
He shrugged off his past by saying, “There’s only been one perfect man who ever walked this earth, and we nailed him to the cross.”So hey, if you’re not Jesus, don’t even bother trying.”
Greg Lopez’s campaign strategy was to deny reality, including the existence of systemic racism in the United States, the fact that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, making homophobic statements about incumbent Governor Jared Polis and his husband, and wanting to ban abortion without any exceptions for rape or incest.
This might make you convinced Greg Lopez would have been demolished in his attempts to get into office, but no, Republican voters are still enamoured with terrible people being their picks to “own the left”. Lopez got 46% of the vote in the GOP Primary, and may continue to be a perennial candidate for years to come.
