Democrats have the discharge petition for a clean debt ceiling bill ready to go:
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), who previously characterized the move as a last-ditch effort to avoid a catastrophic default, endorsed the petition Wednesday in a letter to Democratic colleagues even as he expressed hope that “a real pathway” still exists for a bipartisan solution. “It is important that all legislative options be pursued in the event that no agreement is reached,” Jeffries wrote.
I agree that it’s not a good idea to negotiate with terrorists, it’s also important to give House Republicans, especially those in swing districts, an off ramp. This also puts pressure on McCarthy , who has limited control over his caucus. We’ll see how this goes.
