The Washington Post is reporting that 8 of the 16 fraudulent electors put up by Georgia Republicans for the 2020 election have accepted immunity deals with Prosecutor Fani Willis’s office. Some quick thoughts as to what this means.
- It’s now obvious why Willis has not yet brought her charges after telling a judge in January that charging decisions were imminent. Willis has continued her investigation. She is still interviewing witnesses, and securing cooperative testimony from key witness.
- These witnesses have something to offer in the way of testimony. There is no point in giving them immunity if they don’t.
- It sucks to have not boarded that immunity train.
- Willis obviously regards the fake electors as the small fish in the investigation, and she is using them to go after much bigger fish.
Willis has stated in writing that any indictments she brings will be in July/August. She did this in the context of warning the sheriff to prepare security for potential violence that could follow.
