This is not a criticism of anyone, nor is it meant to put anyone below anybody else or above any others.
I’ve been here for a number of years, somewhere between five and ten, and I’ve used a couple of different monikers in that time.
There is a- a thing, a habit, a trend, something, I’ve noticed that I find a bit disturbing. Perhaps others do as well.
I see people who are moved to write stories, especially on current events, who will turn around and delete their words, thoughts and opinions on whatever it was that awoke their writer’s spirit once they see someone else has written on the same subject. I can only imagine there must also be people who either dont write what they were going to or who simply leave it as a draft and don’t push “Publish”.
I find this sad.
I no longer write here very much, there are reasons for that, but when I did I put my heart into it, and when many of those who do write here put that heart, soul and intellect into something, well- I would like to read it.
Sometimes y’all self censor so fast, I can’t get there in time to get your input. I don’t get to taste your mind through the words you choose. I do love the sense of fair play and cameraderie that I feel this practice comes from, but I think it’s misplaced.
Not publishing those stories leaves a hole in the knowledge and data I might need/use to make my own decisions and form my opinions- also in my enjoyment and education. Some of the most poignant and human stories I’ve ever read have been read right here. Personally, and this is all just me asking, could you please slow down on the deletions/self censorship. There might well be an occassion where it is warranted, but it should be a last resort instead of a first go to.
I’ll close with what I used as a headline.
Please write.
